Jane Moynihan
I have always had a passion for imaginative art and a natural curiosity for what lies hidden. My will to understand the human purpose and my own sense of self led me on a journey of deep introspection through meditation, Reiki, and in 2012 I qualified as a Jungian psychotherapist. During my training we practiced active imagination and I witnessed first hand the power of image, myth and story-telling to the healing process. The secrets of the human heart are precious.
I studied shamanism in 2013 and sacred art for several years with a shamanic artist. I suppose I see my paintings as a reflection of my mind which hangs somewhere on the borderlands between what is seen and what is imagined. I started painting over ten years ago without any formal training. More recently I've trained with the Dutch artist and shamanic teacher, Imelda Almqvist. I don't have a particular style - I just like painting the stories which emerge around a character, image, or theme. My main influences are the Surrealists and Symbolists, as well as the the painters of the Romantic Imagination (Blake, Fuesli and Goya). I also have a deep interest in the alchemical paintings of the Middle Ages and really resonate with the dream-like and visionary paintings of Alex Grey, Meinrad Craighead, Imelda Almqvist, Frieda Kahlo, and Marc Chagall. As a founding member of the artist group, Broken Branches Collective, I exhibited The Art of Transformation in 2015 at the Rayleigh Windmill in Essex. The culmination of the exhibition was a collaborative live sculpture, inviting visitors to contribute small pieces of artwork collage, which was subsequently adopted by Rayleigh Library. She also was resident artist for a local school in 2013 and donated a painting for a competition which encouraged children to use artwork as a way to tap into creative story-telling and poety. I have an MA in Jungian psychology, as well as a postgraduate diploma in Mindfulness Therapy. I have a BA in English Literature, and I live and work in London. I am currently practicing Jikiden Reiki. |
